How does muscle growth actually take place? The latest research theorizes that growth is triggered by 2 main elements: Muscle Damage Theory Intense exercise causes multiple micro trauma within the muscle you train. The resulting damage turns on a sequence of biochemical and physiological signals that stimulate muscle hypertrophy (growth), given the appropriate recovery and nutrition conditions are available.
